Circle Rehabilitation is a beautiful building, with some spectacular architectural and engineering features, as well as being a cutting-edge, best-in-class hospital with five operating theatres, ten first stage recovery beds, 20 second stage recovery beds, 20 hospital bedrooms and 120 bedrooms for rehabilitation patients.
If architects are using 3D models, why would planners use 2D drawings and not those models? When daylight tracking is measurable and predictable (if complex), why would planners be checking the architects’ sums, armed with a calculator, when a ‘digital app’ could do this more efficiently?
Why are planners (and the public) expected to engage with idealised and unrealistic CGI images of proposed developments that they cannot adjust, interrogate or control?Digitisation would make it possible to view proposed developments in their context, that any user could control and view from any angle.. Planning applications and the public:.The more accessible a planning application can be made, the easier it can be interpreted.
By making it more understandable it will enable greater levels of public engagement. In turn, it is hoped that this will result in a better decision making process and one that is more reflective of the community it will affect.. Planning, developers and bureaucracy:.
It is worth noting that complex analogue processes tend to create work for people who specialise in navigating them and this, in turn, raises the barrier of entry to the uninitiated.
This impacts both the small scale developer who finds it too costly to engage with the planning process; and the domestic developer who may require a number of expensive professional consultants to extend their kitchen.. Challenges/blockers/barriers to a digital planning process. In the digital design environment, we experiment with a huge number of permutations of components, introducing variables, then measuring, iterating and refining, over and again..
Adopting this Design to Value approach, enables us to see how small changes in one component can have a dramatic consequence at a later stage. And conversely, we can trace inefficiencies and anomalies back to their source.
By modelling the effect of several variables simultaneously we can build in flexibility where it’s needed to ensure future viability when circumstances change, which, as current events should teach us, they will.. From the earliest stages, we work with 3D visualisations of processes and physical assets. This allows users to take a virtual reality walk through the process, to test the physical environment and anticipate any issues.
